"Suddenly a wash of forgiveness swept over me. I forgave myself for everything I'd done wrong in my life. And I forgave everyone who'd ever wronged me. It was one of those rare, magic moments when all seems right with the world." Gamester's People,Toronto Star

Letter To A Young Woman; on meaning of love and life

My life’s journey has taken me from a deep enriching Catholicism, which fell behind as I moved into the wonders of psychotherapy, through the fantastical world of the New Age, to where I stand currently, on the open plain of a spiritual, compassionate acceptance of life. This place in my life offers a sufficiently unobstructed view of the sky over my head to realize there probably is what might be called a divine presence.  How it moves within us and upon this earth is for me a deep and reverent Mystery that fills me with awe.

I have explored the sacred Isle of Iona, climbed the Tor at Glastonbury, vigiled on the island of Lough Derg in Ireland, stood on the Bridge of the Angels in Rome, gazed out across the Sea of Galilee, wandered through India. I have walked five hundred miles of the ancient pilgrim's route, El Camino de Santiage, the first time the second time, the third time in Spain, participated in the sun dance of the Plains Indians, pilgrimaged across America, received Kalachakra Initiation from the Dalai Lama, and much more.

Over the past few years, I have been chronicling an inner journey through the hopes and despairs, dreams and realities of my humanity.  My pilgrimage has taken me out across the peaks and valleys, open plains and blue skies of the soul’s country, as I head towards a place of longing that many might refer to as God; others as the great Mystery; a few, call Self.  More recently I have been exploring the possibility of some "noble deed" that might fulfill my life.  Click on Noble Deed.

My life seems to be about journeying.

As a pilgrim I have imagined myself  journeying towards a moment in time made sacred by what each of us brings to it.   I had always envisioned this as a great gathering where each of us brought to the banquet table all that we had gleaned along the way.   Now I realize that every encounter with another, I want to make sacred by what each of us can bring to that moment.  It has changed the way I relate to others.

In my better moments, I like to see myself as a visionary writer, a hope-full cynic who imagines a future filled with undreamed possibilities.  However in truth what I write are, more often, simply wonderful flights of fantasy.  To get an idea of what I mean, click on some of what I've written: Diana, a Once and Future Princess, Ground Zero, Fifty Years Later 9:11 Fifty Years Later,   How Peace Came To The Middle East,   The Last One, The Waterbearer,  "Cathedral Building" On Mars Unfortunately the events of the past year have choked my visionary, optimistic nature, and I find the naive nature of some of these pieces swallowed up in my sense that we are entering a dark time, that for me, has little promise of anything hopeful exept maybe a Near Death Experience which might just awaken all of us to seeing the world differently.

On the other hand, believing I have something to say to certain groups of people, I have begun a letter writing campaign addressing my letters to the American people, young people, seniors, my peers, people of earth.

Recently I have been looking at the days of the year as they shape our sense of ourselves and our world. Click on the following to enjoy a look at a holiday and see what I mean: Christmas Eve, Valentine's Day, Ground Hog Day, April Fool's Day, Earth Day, Father's Day and Mother's Day.

I have been called millennium pilgrim, secular sage, seeker, skeptic, Ulyssian sojourner, and a naive optimist.  In truth, just like everyone else, I'm busy trying to make some sense of the world we live in.  If you still want to know more what I'm about, click on How My Shadow Became Famous, Gamester's People, Pilgrimage Across America, and The Postmodern Pilgrim.

This time last year, I found myself writing a short story, Heading West, (an old man's trip to the West Coast) that captures my journey's end in a way that I am not unhappy with.  You might find it worth a read.  Finally as what seems like a metaphor of my life, should you be interested, take a look at A moment of Greatness

Most recently I did a design for the WTC Memorial site, which an artist friend described as "amazing, eloquent, well thought out, inspired."   Take a look and decide for yourself at WTC
